Peranakan cuisine, also known as Nyonya or Straits Chinese cuisine, is a delightful fusion of Chinese, Malay, and Indonesian flavours deeply ingrained in Singapore's community cultural heritage and traditions. In February 2024, our Culinary Director, Chef Mel Dean is taking on this culinary tradition and its special significance, contributing to the festive atmosphere of both the Chinese New Year 2024 and Valentine's Day in Singapore.

Celebrating Lunar New Year with Symbolic Peranakan Dishes at Permata
In anticipation of the Chinese New Year 2024, Permata's Culinary Director, Chef Mel Dean, has selected a range of symbolic dishes from the Peranakan heritage to celebrate Lunar New Year festivity. Among the selections of our halal buffet menu this February 2024 are Ayam Pongteh, a hearty chicken and potato stew, and Chicken Ngoh Hiang, which are believed to bring good fortune and prosperity.
The Peranakan Palate Halal Buffet Menu offers a specially curated selection of dishes that showcase the rich and intricate flavours of Peranakan cuisine. This unique culinary tradition adds an exceptional touch to the festivities of Chinese New Year in 2024.
